Pittsford Homes for Sale

A Place of Options

There’s something for everyone

Pittsford homes are an important part of our history. This area is the home of some important “firsts”. As the oldest village in Monroe County, it’s the home of the first school, library, newspaper, post office, permanent church, and practicing doctor in Monroe County.

The area is still first-rate today. Commerce has flourished in Pittsford! There’s an emphasis on supporting local artisans and small businesses. Public school students in the area get an excellent education at Pittsford Central School District. After high school, graduates can choose to stay local to attend Nazareth College or St. John Fisher College.

The beautiful neighborhoods of Pittsford are just seven miles away from the city of Rochester. However, you don’t need to drive to Rochester to find unique shops! The village hosts many small businesses, and there’s popular commercial shopping and dining available in town as well. It’s the best of both worlds, whatever your lifestyle and dwelling preferences may be!

Drawn to the water

The pond that grew into a village

Life is impossible without water.

Pittsford showcases the history of settling in America. In fact, a spring-fed pond is what first attracted European Americans to the area. The first settler, Israel Stone, built a log house next to the pond in 1789. Many others followed suit in the years after.

Another draw to the area was the opening of the Erie Canal in 1822. The village quickly grew into an important shipping center, while surrounding lands were used for agriculture. The development of Rochester diverted and slowed growth in Pittsford for a time, but in the late 1800s, wealthy Rochesterians began to establish country estates in the village. It was the beginning of the area’s transition from farmlands to welcoming suburban neighborhoods.

Today, the main draw to the canal is shopping and dining at Schoen Place. Free summer concerts are held at the small park on the south side of the canal, and Sam Patch canal tours also offer kayak and canoe rentals. Stop in any time of year to get a delicious bite to eat at Aladdin’s Natural Eatery or sample some beer at Lock 32 Brewing Company. Shops like Mostly Clay offer artisan goods while Pittsford Lumber sells materials to do your own woodworking.

Life near the water flourishes, and this prosperous village is no exception.

Community connections

Commerce and education draw people to the area

Pittsford covers a smaller area than some of the surrounding towns, but that just means residents are closer to conveniences! In addition, most of the neighborhoods feature gorgeous trees, and the houses are spread out enough to ensure residents don’t feel clustered in too tightly.

Because the town is slightly smaller than surrounding communities, it has a lot of contact with other towns. Students from the towns of Perinton, Penfield, Mendon, Brighton, and Victor are mixed in with local kids. It’s a great way to stay in touch with other communities.

But kids aren’t the only ones coming to town! Pittsford Plaza caters to everyone. Glaze some pottery at Color Me Mine or catch a movie at Pittsford Cinema 9. You can visit Trader Joe’s to do your grocery shopping or pick up some gorgeous handmade goods at One World Goods’ fair trade marketplace.

Local options for incredible shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences are in abundance in the village and town. And if you can’t find something to do in town, it’s a quick venture up the road to the city of Rochester or a short drive to the Finger Lakes for a day at the beach or a wine tour. Residents will find that living here is a treat, with easy access to everything and friendly neighbors!
