For most of us, our bedroom is little more than a place to sleep and relax. However, just because it’s always been that way doesn’t mean that we have to settle for drab and dreary.

One trend that’s gaining steam these days is converting your current bedroom into a luxury suite (or something comparable). If you want to live like you’re renting a room at the Ritz, then you want to follow these tips.

Compartmentalize Your Activities

Making your bedroom more functional is going to make it more luxurious. Add a gorgeous desk for working and a TV area for entertainment, and you’ll be living it up in no time.

A lux office set up in the bedroom
If you’re adding additional spaces to your bedroom, be intentional with your choice of everything. Form follows function, but you can luxe any space simply by picking items you need that multitask as being attractive. This chair is a great example of that!

Find ways to organize those areas in an attractive way too. If you’ve added an office space to your bedroom, purchase bins or baskets that hide the paperwork and office supplies and leave you excited about the way it looks. Get a comfortable chair that compliments your space well and add some art that appeals to your senses.

Make it Chic with Luxe Choices

Choose a color palette that’s both luxurious and classy. Silver and gold can seem tacky. Instead, experiment with muted shades that complement each other.

A brilliant and commanding headboard can also instantly upgrade the look of your room without any other changes.

A headboard can be as formal or informal as you like, but it adds a sense of completion to the bed that’s otherwise lacking.

Light it Properly

Finally, make sure that you have the right light to show off your designs. If it’s too washed out or yellow, then it will look drab and run down. Switch to brilliant LEDs and see the difference.

Keep in mind that your room should have layers of light. Try to include a mix of overhead lightings and floor lamps at a minimum. Go for luxe and mix in a variety of lighting types based on expert design advice. Read The New York Times’s article on lighting here.

Choose Your Accents Wisely

We already mentioned a headboard, but some elegant drapes can also make your room feel more royal. Being strategic with your furniture accessories is going to both keep you under budget and avoid doing too much with the space. There are plenty of handy design tips and tricks available on the internet. Take some time on a Saturday morning to sit down with a cup of coffee and your computer to find ideas that give your bedroom that extra something special, then implement them!
