A suburban oasis sits right outside Rochester
Brighton hugs the southeastern part of the city of Rochester. Some of the most beautiful and prestigious neighborhoods are located in the Rochester region.
The southern part of town is made up of typical middle-class homes. The closer you travel to Rochester, the more luxurious and gorgeous the houses become. Perhaps one of the most beautiful developments is the Houston Barnard Tract. The neighborhood features homes built in the 1920s and ‘30s by Houston Banard. Banard was a fan of the Tudor revival and many of his homes were built in this style.
Brighton residents live in a lovely suburban neighborhood just a 10-minute drive from the heart of Rochester. They also have easy access to the University of Rochester, the Greater Rochester International Airport, and the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
Brighton is home to Rochester’s only kosher butcher, Lipman’s Kosher Market, as well as a few Jewish synagogues. There’s room for everyone though! Brighton is home to Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, and Mormons as well. There are literally dozens of places of worship for people of almost any faith both in Brighton and Rochester.

Education and enrichment
So many places to learn and grow.
Students, teachers, and education enthusiasts will appreciate the number of schools available in the Brighton area. Whether you have children or just like volunteering, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Students in the area are split between five school districts, but the vast majority of them, about 3,500 students, attend Brighton Central School District.
Other public school districts that draw students from town are Penfield Central School District (northeastern Brighton); Pittsford Central School District (east and some northeastern Brighton); Rush-Henrietta Central School District (western Brighton); and Wheatland-Chili Central School District (extremely western part of Brighton).
The town is also home to several private schools, including McQuaid Jesuit High School, The Harley School, and Our Lady of Mercy High School.
Anyone interested in an excellent higher education can check out Monroe Community College. The campus also hosts hundreds of events, most of which are open to the public, all year long. From art shows to dramatic performances, and scientific discussions to therapy dog visits, there’s always something enriching, educational, and entertaining going on in the community.
Local activities
Shoppers and hikers alike have plenty to do here.
There are a few notable commercial areas in Brighton worth pointing out, such as South Winton Road and West Henrietta Road.
The most well-known is the Twelve Corners. The area is located at the intersection of Monroe Avenue, South Winton Road, and Elmwood Avenue. As you may have already guessed, the intersection forms twelve corners. It’s home to a number of businesses and restaurants that serve the area.
Do you love shopping at farmer’s markets? Brighton even has a winter farmer’s market! It’s not just fresh produce and meats. The market also offers plants, eggs, flowers, baked goods, pasta, honey, and more. There’s live music in the summer, and it’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee with friends.
In recent years there has been a focus on preserving the undeveloped land in the area. One such place is Corbett’s Glen Nature Park. 52 acres of nature include waterfalls, a creek, open fields, a marsh, and mature woods. Visitors are welcome to fish (with a license), hike, walk their dogs, and picnic at the park.
Whether you enjoy a day at the park or an afternoon sipping coffee at Starbucks, there’s something for everyone right in town.
